Ms. Pamela P. Lackey, a member of the IMPH Board of Directors, was honored last night as the United Way of the Midlands’ Humanitarian of the Year. The award is given by the organization annually to recognize individuals that show exemplary philanthropic work and leadership.  

Pamela P. Lackey was President of AT&T South Carolina, a position she held from 2007 until 2018. She was responsible for the public policy, economic development and community affairs activities of AT&T. Ms. Lackey aimed to improve the lives of South Carolinians by working closely with community and state leaders to bring technology and jobs to the Palmetto State. 

Prior to her work at AT&T, Ms. Lackey was an influential figure in South Carolina education. Beginning her career as a library media specialist, she then went on to serve as the Senior Executive Assistant to the South Carolina Superintendent of Education.  

Ms. Lackey is actively engaged in community and civic affairs and serves on numerous boards, including: the S.C. Ports Authority Board, the Business Partnership Foundation at USC’s Moore School of Business, the Palmetto AgriBusinessCouncil, the Palmetto Business Forum and the Hollings Cancer Center Advisory Board. She served four years on the Research Centers of Excellence Review Board. In November 2011, she was named the Business Leader of the Year by the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, the highest award bestowed by the state’s largest business and industry association. 

Ms. Lackey has served on IMPH’s Board of Directors since 2015, and served as chair from 2017 through 2018. Her leadership and insight continue to positively guide IMPH.    

Ms. Lackey was named as the Humanitarian of the Year in November of 2019 and recognized on Thursday, February 20 at the Pastides Alumni Center at the University of South Carolina.
