In an effort to support the work of the South Carolina Health Planning Committee, the South Carolina Department of Insurance commissioned research on the status of insurance coverage in the state as well as key perspectives on various aspects of a health insurance exchange. As a component of this broader research initiative, the South Carolina Institute of Medicine and Public Health (formerly the South Carolina Public Health Institute) conducted a focus group study among key constituencies to explore their perspectives on health insurance coverage, marketplace considerations and the type of exchange that South Carolina could have. The content of this report reflects the methodology, results and conclusions relevant to this study.
