CDC Releases Prevention Status Reports

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have recently released Prevention Status Reports (PSRs) for all 50 states and the District of Columbia.  The reports cover ten different public health concerns and offer a three-level rating system to provide assessment policies and practices within the state.  A simple framework was used to assemble the reports and includes defining the public health problem, identifying solutions and reporting the status of the solutions for each state.  Topics covered by the PSRs include:

It is important to note that the policies and practices included in the PSRs were selected because they can be monitored utilizing readily available state-level data. Policies and practices selected also meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Supported by systematic review(s) of scientific evidence of effectiveness
  • Explicitly cited in a national strategy or national action plan
  • Recommended by a recognized body, panel, organization, study or report with an evidence-based focus
