The South Carolina Public Health Institute (SCPHI) is pleased that the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) shares our concern for the most vulnerable members of society and appreciates their agreement that most frequent users of emergency rooms posses mental and physical health problems that warrant our collective attention.
Emergency department visits in South Carolina are growing faster than our population. South Carolina’s rate of ED visits outpaces the national average and this rate is increasing. Contrary to the myth, the uninsured are not overwhelming South Carolina’s emergency departments.

The Affordable Care Act Implementation Initiative congratulates Governor Haley on her decision to recognize the Affordable Care Act as the law of the land and proceed with implementation. We look forward to working with her to ensure implementation that best serves the interests of all South Carolinians.
On February 16, 2011 the Long-term Care Joint Resolution developed by members of the ACA Implementation Initiative Long-term Care workgroup was introduced in the SC Senate.
The State Coverage Initiatives (SCI) program recently released its report State of the States 2011.The report offers an excellent summary and comparison of where different states are in implementation of the Affordable Care Act.
