Key Data on Health and Health Coverage in SC Released by Kaiser Family Foundation

The Kaiser Family Foundation recently released a fact sheet on key data on health and health coverage in South Carolina.  Drawing from data from “Health and Heath Coverage in the South: A Data Update,” the fact sheet provides a portrait of South Carolina residents, health needs in South Carolina and health coverage in South Carolina.

Highlights from the fact sheet include:

  • Nearly one in five (17%) South Carolinians is poor.
  • One in five (20%) of adults report fair or poor health status.
  • Cancer-related death rates are much higher in South Carolina (179.0 per 100,000) than in the South (171.4 per 100,000) and the United States as a whole (166.4 per 100,000).
  • South Carolinians are more likely to be uninsured compared to the population nationwide.
